Dean Haglund jokingly refers to himself as “that guy from The X-Files.” That is because he is best-known for his recurring role as Richard “Ringo” Langly, one of “the Lone Gunmen” (a group of computer hackers/conspiracy theorists) on The X-Files television series. Although his truth-seeking character on The X-Files was fictional, Haglund considers himself a real-life truth-seeker.

In 2009, he teamed up with filmmaker Phil Leirness to create a documentary film to explore various topics including conspiracies surrounding UFOs and extraterrestrials. The Truth is Out There follows Dean “as he travels the globe,” stopping at various conspiracy and paranormal conferences around the globe.

From his time on The X-Files, and through making The Truth is Out There, Haglund says he has “seen some pretty compelling evidence” to suggest that some UFOs are extraterrestrial in origin. In the film, Haglund conducts dozens of interviews with experts in a wide range of fields including UFO historian, Richard Dolan, Director of the National UFO Reporting Center, Peter Davenport, radio talk show host, Alex Jones, and a doctor who has removed several mysterious implants from patients, Dr. Roger Leir.

In addition to being an actor, Haglund is also a talented artist and comedian. As such, The Truth is Out There features some of his comedy. He acknowledges that many shows addressing UFOs and extraterrestrials take these subjects too lightly. But during a recent interview on the web series Spacing Out!, he explained that he feels the study of these subjects “can be fun and respectful without disrespecting the researchers or the research.”
