We have previously reported that clinton had warned world governments ahead of diplomatic Embassy Wikileaks leaks.[Link]

Trying to limit the damage, US diplomats yesterday briefed friendly governments on the likely content of the leaked documents.

Now according to latest report on The Telegraph UK website – US diplomats predicted the Coalition Government would be unstable and considered Gordon Brown to be weak and unpredictable, secret documents are set to show.

In another development Britain has expressed its fear for the wellbeing of its citizens in Pakistan, Iraq, Iran and other Muslim countries following “anti-Muslim” comments expected to appear in documents slated to be published Sunday evening by the WikiLeaks website, the Sunday Times reports.

The British government fears that certain talks between diplomats will reflect an anti-Islamic approach, which would ignite the atmosphere among extremists.

One of the more bizarre features of the soon-to-be-leaked Wikileaks revelations was the leaking of the fact that they were to be leaked. The US government clearly decided to get its retaliation in first.

The initiative by the US state department on Wednesday was evidently designed to explain to foreign governments that there would be embarrassing revelations in the sensitive diplomatic documents that Wikileaks was about to post on its site.

Update 1

Wikileaks currently under a mass distributed denial of service attack. El Pais, Le Monde, Speigel, Guardian & NYT will publish many US embassy cables tonight, even if WikiLeaks goes down

Update 2

At the start of a series of daily extracts from the US embassy cables – many of which are designated “secret” – the UK News paper Guardian disclose that Arab leaders are privately urging an air strike on Iran and that US officials have been instructed to spy on the UN’s leadership.

These two revelations alone would be likely to reverberate around the world. But the secret dispatches which were obtained by WikiLeaks, the whistlebowers’ website, also reveal Washington’s evaluation of many other highly sensitive international issues.

These include a major shift in relations between China and North Korea, Pakistan’s growing instability and details of clandestine US efforts to combat al-Qaida in Yemen.

The cables also suggest that the U.S. had sought to use its embassies in the global espionage network. The material, which includes information written as recently as February, shows secretaries of state Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice telling officials to collect personal details of political leaders like iris scans, fingerprints, DNA samples as well as to get information on military installations, weapons markings and vehicle descriptions.

Among scores of other disclosures that are likely to cause uproar, the cables detail:

• Grave fears in Washington and London over the security of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programme

•?Alleged links between the Russian government and organised crime.

•?Devastating criticism of the UK’s military operations in Afghanistan.

•?Claims of inappropriate behaviour by a member of the British royal family.

The US has particularly intimate dealings with Britain, and some of the dispatches from the London embassy in Grosvenor Square will make uncomfortable reading in Whitehall and Westminster. They range from serious political criticisms of David Cameron to requests for specific intelligence about individual MPs. Source
