See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com Tour of Abydos & Dendara “Today we were being met on the East Bank by our tour guide (Ali) and driver Mahmoud (yep another) for the trip to Abydos and Dendara. We organised this through Mara House. It is a 2.5hr drive to Abydos and then we come back to Dendara and a further 1hr back in to Luxor. Abydos has been used as a burial site and sacred site since predynastic history. The main temple is that of Sety I built around 1300BC. I was excited to visit here as I was reading the book Omm Sety about Dorothy Eady who considered herself a reincarnation of a temple priestess and lover of Sety I who used to visit her. We were told to look out for the cartouche of the Helicopter/Submarine & plane on the ceiling of the Outer Hypostyle Hall and yes, it does resemble exactly that. Pete would love to believe as I think they had a plot involving this in Stargate! We later spoke with an archeologist who dismissed the whole theory and said it came about by the layering of one cartouche over another and some erosion occurring. The portal nearest Seti’s sanctuary leads into the columned Hall of Sokar and Nerfertum (deities of the north representing the cycle of death and rebirth, who were integrated into the cult of Osiris) in the southern wing of the temple.
