Mysterious rings on the floor of the Namib Desert in southern Africa have baffled scientists for years. But based on new research, scientists at the University of Hamburg think they have identified what creates this strange phenomenon.
LiveScience explains that these “fairy circles,” as they are known, appear in regular patterns and they can last for decades. Although these bizarre circles are a bit crop circle-ish, biologist Norbert Juergens of the University of Hamburg thinks that termites, rather than aliens create the circles.

While studying the fairy circles, Dr. Juergens found the circles contain sand termites. Nature World News further explains that Dr. Juergens determined the circles contain “other telltale signs of the insect, including foraged plant material and underground tunnels, signaling that they were not just visiting when Juergens saw them.”
Dr. Juergens’ study was published in the journal Science.
Chemist Yvette Naude of the University of Pretoria, South Africa did not participate in Dr. Juergens’ study, but she told LiveScience that the study “is a useful addition to debating the origin of the fairy circles.” But she goes on to state that the study “does not address the key question as to what is the primary factor that causes sudden plant mortality, i.e. the birth of a fairy circle.” LiveScience suggests, “It is possible the termites don’t cause the fairy circles, but merely live in them.”
So although this new study supports the theory that fairy circles are caused by termites, questions remain, and a conclusive explanation has yet to be made.

On October 16, amateur astronomer Allen Epling captured photos and video of a strange cigar-shaped UFO in the sky above Kentucky. Several witnesses in multiple states reportedly saw the same, or a similar, aerial object.

The identity of the object over Kentucky baffled witnesses and officials. But on October 31, KIAH-TV in Houston, Texas asserted that the UFO “was nothing more than a kid’s toy airship.” The station explains that these twenty-six-foot-long toy solar balloons are constructed from “a high-density, lightweight matte black film which reacts to the heat from the sun and gets bigger as it fills with air,” and they can go as high as 30,000 feet.
Some suggested this type of solar balloon as a possible identification for the Kentucky UFO immediately after the object was reported. Although the shape of the toy airship is similar to the object captured on video by Epling, the object he observed appears transparent and highly reflective, whereas the solar airship is made of an opaque, black, matte material. Additionally, Epling estimates the object he observed was well above 30,000 feet.
And just for fun, here is what two of these solar airships look like in the sky when they are tied together.
So do you think the object seen by Epling and many others was a kid’s toy airship as KIAH-TV asserts, or do you believe the object remains unidentified? Share your thoughts with us by leaving a comment below, or by posting on our Facebook page.

Time: 12:30 p.m.
Hi Brian, I have been listening to you on Rense for many years and am always interested in the reports here in Canada.
I don’t want you to give out my name, but would like to tell you about something that is ongoing.
We have a place 80 miles North West of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. There are trails that I groom for a small resort.
On Thursday August 16, 2012 I was mowing one of the trails that is about 3 kilometers in the bush away from the resort, there are not many people around here and a great deal of government land for many kilometers.
On the one section of trail I kept hearing noises above the sound of the lawn mower, at the same time got the feeling that I was being watched.
I stopped several times to look around thinking that there might be a deer, moose or more importantly a bear around, but I never saw anything and kept mowing.
I came across several young trees about an inch to a inch and a half thick that had been broken between 6 and 7 foot level. Initially I thought it was a moose or elk passing by, but later changed my mind.
I had been mowing for several hours, it was 12:30 p.m. so I parked the mower on the trail and walked back to my cabin for lunch, about 50 minutes later I came back.
Where I had parked my mower there was a young tree freshly snapped at the 7 foot height.
I know this was not broken before because I was working on that trail and the way the tree was broken, it came across the trail making it necessary to duck in order to pass.
This was within 3 feet of my mower at that point. I started looking carefully for more broken trees, I saw several, some fresh and some a day or more old, it was only in that area though, along that section of trail.
At that point I still was not sure what was doing this, I know no human was on the path during that time, and after experimenting with some other trees came to the conclusion that it wasn’t an Elk or Moose. I could take a similar size tree and bend it to the ground and the tree would spring back up with no harm done.
I checked the trees for antler scrapes or claw marks, but found none. At this point I started thinking the only way to break a tree in this fashion would require something resembling a hand in order to brace the tree and another hand to pull it down and snap it.
That evening I put up a trail cam, but only caught a small doe and her fawn. I intend to do more, but was leaving the next day and won’t be back for a couple of weeks.
After going on the internet and seeing what signs there were where Sasquatch were suspected, I recall a couple more things that at the time I ignored.
With the broken trees and sounds, I also smelt an odor that at the time I put off to a skunk, it was a little different smell but close enough.
I even remarked that the smell had moved from where I had smelt it in the morning when I took my son on the trails in the evening. Also I had come across an area where several branches had been piled against a tree in a crude shelter.
I had put it off to kids playing and that still could be the case. In the past my dog would at times freeze and not continue any further, the thought that maybe a Lynx, Wolf or Coyote was nearby and she was scared and we usually headed back to the cabin.
We hear Coyotes and Wolves most nights, sometimes very close. On the trail that evening she froze and didn’t want to continue, with a little coaxing she continued, but stayed by my side and didn’t go on ahead like she normally does.
When I get back I will be putting the trail cam back up and taking some pictures.
If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.
Also, please feel free to send in your sightings that have happened years ago. So many of these older sightings are nothing short of amazing.
