Hi all,
Like other things in the world, aspects of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) come into, and go out of, fashion. The month of May in Australia is a good time to keep your eyes on the skies for one of the rarer occurrences.
One quite rare feature of UAP these days is the fall of what is called “Angel hair.” Angel hair is a sticky, fibrous substance which falls from the sky in connection with the sighting of unusual aerial objects. Some of the earliest cases from modern times occurred in France in 1952 (click here to read about these.)
Australian cases:
There have been recorded falls here in Australia. Some examples are:
For a very interesting case which I found after I had completed the catalogue see my earlier blog post.

A new online UFO publication is headed our way this summer. Edited by recently-retired UK police detective and veteran UFO researcher Gary Heseltine, UFO Truth Magazineis an 84 page bi-monthly colour Ezine that will feature regular columns by UFO researchers from around the world, including Peter Robbins (USA), AJ Geveard (Brazil), Roberto Pinotti (Italy), Suzanne Hansen (NZ), Lt Col Ret. Julio Chamorro Flores (Peru), Pia Knudsen (Denmark), and Richard D. Hall (UK), among others. The magazine will also feature a regular column by yours truly, providing exclusive content on UFO-themed movies and TV shows. Additionally, Heseltine has promised guest contributions from the likes of Grant Cameron, Robert Salas, and Stephen Bassett.
“I believe this is the strongest list of regular columnists for a UFO magazine anywhere in the world,” says Heseltine, who makes no apologies for his publication’s strong support of the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis: “I will state without reservation that this magazine is for people who believe that some UFO reports represent extraterrestrial contact (in its many forms) with mankind and the Earth. The bottom line is that this magazine will be for people who are proud to say, “I believe that UFOs and ET are real.”
Heseltine has also promised to set aside “one third of all monies raised through monthly and yearly subscriptions for UFO research and causes.” Initially this money will be used as a funding mechanism for British UFO conferences, but Heseltine hopes that, in time, money generated by his magazine may also be used “to support genuine researchers around the world in the form of grants.”
Heseltine has stressed that he is “not doing this to make pots of money,” but because he cares ”passionately about this subject” and wants “to secure a financial structure for British Ufology and support the subject worldwide.”
Heseltine believes his magazine will have international appeal and is excited about its online format: “There has never been a better time for a quality online UFO Magazine. People used to hate reading off computer screens but with the development of smartphone and tablet technologies people are now happy to do so.”
The first issue of UFO Truth Magazine will be published at the end of June and will be free. Thereafter it will cost £4 (or your national currency equivalent). All transactions will be online through Paypal.
As a special deal, people who opt for a yearly subscription package before June 16th will receive six issues for the price of four, i.e. £16 (or currency equivalent).
The website for UFO Truth Magazine will launch fully later this month.

The National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada opened its Area 51: Myth or Reality exhibit in March of 2012. With this exhibit featuring UFO/extraterrestrial elements, the museum hosted special lectures in 2012 related to these topics, including one that featured former military personnel discussing UFOs.
The museum has announced its first lectures of 2013, and just like last year, many of these presentations are UFO-related. On April 5, T.L. Keller is presenting a lecture titled “The Antelope Valley-Area 51 Connection.” Keller is an aerospace engineer and a former computer systems analyst for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. In 2010, Keller authored the book The Total Novice’s Guide to UFOs, and was a presenter at the 2012 MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) Symposium in Kentucky.

Dave MacDonald, the executive director of MUFON is presenting a lecture at the museum on April 13 titled “Hunting UFOs.” MacDonald’s presentation should serve as the perfect opportunity for him to promote the upcoming 2013 MUFON Symposium that will take place in Las Vegas this year on July 18-21.
And on May 11, Dr. Lynne Kitei will present a lecture about the mysterious 1997 UFO event known as the Phoenix Lights.
Other UFO related events are scheduled for later this year, but have yet to be publicly announced. If you are interested in upcoming events at the National Atomic Testing Museum, visit their website and sign up for the newsletter.
In March of 2012, I attended a special media event for the grand opening of the museum’s Area 51 exhibit. The video below provides a brief introduction to the exhibit, and features the museum’s director and curator explaining why they decided to open the exhibit.

I have been investigating UFO sightings now since mid 2000. When I started up, things were very slow. A report trickled in from time to time, and it was exciting to see. As the months passed, sighting reports were being filed to me more frequently.
Back then I was hard pressed to see many orange/red light sightings at all. Most reports that came in were about unusual craft, people seeing white lights etc., and a few orange objects and some other weird things. But again, as the years moved on, I did start seeing more and more orange/red light sightings coming in, but most were from Asian countries where they do celebrate different occasions using Chinese/Sky lanterns.
Then a shift started and the reports of these lights began showing up in the UK, slowly at first then increasing by great numbers. It got to the point where orange lights were the subject of most of the sightings I was receiving.
A year or two following the invasion of orange lights in the United Kingdom, I started receiving more and more reports of the lights in Canada. Most of those came from back east in Ontario. Then it spread out across Canada, and still, Ontario remained on top for these sightings probably due to the larger population there, and to this date, huge numbers of sightings of these lights are still piling in. Also at that time, reports of the lights started showing up all along the east coast of the United States. It really was and still is, fascinating to actually see how the orange/red lights spread across the land.
Now, most of the time I receive anywhere from 10 to 20 or more sighting reports per day from people who are seeing these colored lights, meteors and some UFOs. It really is something to see how this all unfolded.
In a recent report, an answer was found to a sighting of a orange ball of light seen over Buena Vista Baja California Sur Mexico.
Here is a link to that story, with an update from the eyewitness who found the evidence that the sighting was indeed a Chinese lantern. The remains were located on the beach, having been washed up on shore as the sighting had taken place over the ocean.
http://worldufos.blogspot.ca/2013/02/large-glowing-orange-ball-of-light-over.html
Pictures of the washed up lantern debris are below.
I have received reports of orange lights from people where they were able to figure out what they saw, after the orange light burnt out and fell into the witnesses yard.
I personally believe most of the orange light sightings are Chinese lanterns, but the problem is finding the proof. The lanterns do come down, but so many fall in wooded areas, lakes, oceans, rivers, yards, etc. When people watch the lights travel over head or see them in the distance, they are still lit, but they do burn out or blink out and it is hard to determine where they might come down because of the darkness. I am sure people walk out in their yards and see the debris from a lantern and wonder what it is, and where did it come from. I am also sure they pick it up and drop it into the trash, not knowing there were lights seen in the sky in the area from the previous night.
Here is an example of what I am talking about. This report came in from Thompson Manitoba, and in the report there are photos the witness took of a melted mess which is the remains of a Chinese lantern.

I am certainly not saying all of the orange and red light sightings are Chinese lanterns, but I do receive thousands of sightings of these lights and I believe that most of them could be the lanterns.
