Exquisite and magnificent, enigmatic and fleeting places… British photographer, Steve Alexander, calls these crop designs in the fields “temporary temples.” Crop circles appear all over the world. The ones I find most beautiful and breathtaking tend to appear in England and, more specifically, in Wiltshire – often adjacent to ancient sacred sites such as Stonehenge and the Avebury Stone Circle. Might it be because that’s where most of the research is occurring? Might there be a relationship between the volume, variety, and complexity of the circles and our attention on them? This presentation of some of the 2009 circles has 1) photos of the circles I drew in 2009, 2) the geometry required to create each circle, 3) the circle design after subtracting what is not needed from the geometry, and 4) an original piece of art – which I just figured out how to add today! I’ve been drawing circles for several years and creating a very limited edition calendar. It’s wonderful to be able to put them into the world in another way! The spiral in the title and credits slides appeared in a field in Switzerland. Enjoy!
