I live in La Porte, TX. I have been seeing lights in the night sky at my apartment that seem at first glance to be a star. They don’t appear every night. The difference is that these are not white like the majority of the stars that are out. They blink different colors very rapidly. The colors they keep changing to are red, green, blue, and white. They don’t move so it’s not a plane. It’s very strange. Most times it is just one. Sometimes more than one. But the first time my girlfriend and I noticed it we were able to pick out four of them. I bought binoculars to get a closer look. I wish I had a strong telescope. I’ve called Channel 11′s tip line on two different occasions. They say no one else has called to report it. One lady I spoke to asked the meteorologist there who used to work for NASA and they just responded with it’s nothing to worry about. They said it’s probably a satellite. I’m skeptical about UFO’s. I would like someone to be able to come out and get video or still pictures if possible and confirm what I’m seeing. I have had other guests at my home who have witnessed it and no one seems to know what these star-like objects are. From my apartment I can see them in the SW/W direction. I’ve called relatives to look outside in Houston but with all of the light in the city they aren’t able to see them. Have you seen or heard about these lights in the sky that flash different colors? I don’t know where else to turn to about this but I would like answer. I’m glad I found this site so I can post what has happened and hopefully find an answer to what I’m seeing on certain nights.

  • That GUY:

it is the galactic federation of light ships..There are surrounding Earth.

  • I think I seen what you are talking about. I got a video with my camera http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA-KUN0E7_Y. I balanced it on a tripod but it seemed as if it would “pulsate” and go out of the picture. It’s like a star lookin object that changes colors like crazy. I seen it a night ago 11/8/10 and haven’t seen it in the sky since but I am on the lookout now lol.

  • Aria:

same here! youre not alone, I have a variety of them every night. some nights there are only about 5-6 of them, other times there are as many as 45-50. I showed my siblings and they were amazed. my mom looked only briefly (she doesnt like the outdoors) and said they were probably just satellites (she doesnt believe in aliens or ufos though)

    if anyone knows, please respond!

  • Z:

Stars, I have seen Sirius A do this at 4 in the morning till dawn for years. Remember, air is not always invisible and can distort light.

  • Ocod:

This is most definitely a star. It’s a well known, and quite simple, phenomenon due to the low line of sight in relation to the horizon. Basically… the amount of air the light has to travel through is greater; ergo, it is more greatly affected by? the changing densities and temperatures of the atmosphere. This is the same effect that washes the sun of it’s blueer colors when it’s on the horizon, making it appear much more red than usual. Blue light is slower in a transparent medium.

  • Ocod:

I didn’t mean to say that the cause of the twinkling effect is also responsible for the sun’s lack of blue color on the horizon; in fact, they are two completely different effects. For the sun, more air between itself and it’s observer means more visible peeling of blue light, resulting in a red sun. For the stars, greater amount of air in which to travel raises the frequency of disruptions to the light wave. Although the star’s light will also peel more blues, this is not the effect responsible for the twinkling. That comes from the properties of the air itself.

  • Normally I do not read post on blogs, but I wish to say that this write-up very forced me to try and do so! Your writing taste has been surprised me. Thank you, quite great article.
