Author: Several Lafayette, Colo. residents claim they saw a UFO last week, in the form of three lights hovering above the Denver suburb. The three reddish lights were spotted at about 8:30 p.m. on March 21, the Longmont Times-Call reports.

Mysterious lights were in the sky above Lafayette, Colorado more than a week ago, and were captured on video by one witness. The UFO video gained widespread attention, and continues to receive attention from media outlets around the world. Some, however, believe the strange lights were nothing more than road flares attached to balloons.

LiveScience’s Bad Science columnist Benjamin Radford published an article yesterday, presenting the “road flare” theory to explain the Colorado lights. In his article, Radford bases his theory on comments made by Leroy van der Vegt, the witness who videotaped the lights. Van der Vegt said the lights moved silently through the sky. From this, Radford concluded that “the lights were likely floating, not moving under their own power.” This led him to his suggestion of “road flares tied to balloons.” Supporting his theory further, Radford mentions the description provided by van der Vegt of the disappearance of the lights—after staying steady, they “faded away.” Radford points out that this “fading away” is “exactly as dying road flares would do.”
But as Radford points out, “Of course it’s also possible that aliens visited Colorado last week in a spacecraft that just happens to look like road flares tied to balloons . . .” The disappearance of lights by a gradual “fading away” doesn’t prove that flares were tied to balloons in this case, even though hoaxes involving balloons and road flares have been proven in the past. While further evidence to support the theory may surface in the future, for now, the lights still remain unidentified.

Classic rocker Sammy Hagar recently added his name to the list of celebrities who have spoken publicly about UFO and alien abduction encounters. While it is easy to anticipate the ridicule that will ensue regarding how the rock and roll lifestyle can easily lead to hallucinations and half-remembered dreams, the debunkers are not necessarily going to be right in this case.

I went outside to walk my dog and i saw a yellow eggshaped flame coming towards me. I thought it was the sun coming down onto the earth. Then i became blinded by an EXTREMELY bright yellow flash , almost like a camera. I began feeling a hyper sensation. MY dog began barking and he ran away, but i couldn’t chase after him because i felt frozen. When it finally went away i could move again. I went inside it was already three in the morning , even though it only felt as though it lasted several seconds. Ever since that day i’ve had very dry eyes and have had to keep reappplying eyedrops every hour to moisten them. It was the scariest most disturbing event OF MY LIFE !!!!

Riding the bus into work this morning, I was listening to the radio,. headphones on, eyes closed. We were on the Ross Island Bridge traveling west when I suddenly thought to open my eyes and look out over the Willamette River and check out the Portland skyline. It was about 6:45 a.m. and dawn was rapidly becoming full morning. What I immediately beheld was a cluster of bright lights over the river at ahout the same elevation as the bridge I was on, There were three bright white lights that seemed to flicker or flash rapidly, all very close together, and to their left was a lively little cluster of bright colored lights that blinked and seemed to tumble around each other. The whole group of lights hung in the air as I craned my neck around to keep them in sight as long as possible. This object was maybe a quarter of a mile away. About 15 seconds passed before the bus drove over the bridge and into the city innards. I discerned no identifiable shape and have no idea what it was. Sure would like to know if anybody else saw what I saw this morning. I’ve been watching the skies the last few months, especially since I viewed some YouTube videos of UFOs taken right here in Portland, just north of where I was, along the east side of the Willamette. Sometimes I shout st the heavens, urging the mystery to reveal itself. Maybe I was heard.
